Adam is in debt. Serious debt.
Just like getting fat, debt silently accumulates and remains unnoticed until things don’t fit anymore.
Because Adam financed his life for the longest time, this debt grew enormous. Adam did not purposely ignore it. He made the minimum payments on everything every month. He has a great credit score. He was just to busy living the perfect life too notice.
Adam has many great things.
He drives the latest German sports car. Not the base model. Never the base model! His car has all the bells and whistles because he deserves to be wrapped in luxury on his fifteen minute commute to work. This is why he works, to treat himself to great stuff. Not to mention this car is a chick magnet. Paying the market adjustment the dealer demanded was a no brainer. Using half his income to pay insurance and make the monthly payments is absolutely worth it.
This car cannot be parked on the street. Adam and his car lives in a luxury, gated community where he rents a two bedroom apartment with a garage. Sure it costs him the other half of his income every month, but he needs the space so he can have a dedicated game room, and the garage keeps his car out of the elements. The garage is also needed to store things.
Adam’s desire for the latest and greatest makes him buy lots of new things, resulting in lots of old things that share the garage with his car. The garage is packed with totes full of old shit, his expensive carbon bicycle (only 24 payments left!) shares a wall with his kayak. There is just enough room to squeeze the car in.
Adam takes pride in his appearance. He maintains a large wardrobe of clothes, and owns a fantastic collection of belts, shoes, watches and sunglasses. He always looks like a million bucks! Regular haircuts, trips to the tanning salon and gym keeps him in great form to use the swimming pool.
Like many others Adam’s value as a human being is defined by his possessions. Years of subtle indoctrination, and outright manipulation programmed him to be the perfect consumer. His brain wired to constantly be afraid of losing out. Messages that shout ’buy now and save’ triggers him to spend, because he will save only when he buys, and does it now. The fact that he saves nothing but spends a lot never dawns on him.
Adam happily lies to himself without realizing it. The life he lives is not his, it belongs to the companies whose products he needs to satisfy the lie. These lies were first told by their marketing departments, using phycology to trick minds into wanting their shit. Needing their shit!
Like many others who fall for the lies, he chooses products that he believes will give him the edge. A better chance to attract a mate, the admiration and envy of others. You only live once! There is no better time than now! For a short time only! Limited stock!
Bullshit! We only die once and until then we live every day! I know this is true because I saw it on the internet!
Like many others Adam is one paycheck away from ruin. He has no savings. Every penny he earns is spoken for, and the monthly shortfall he needs to cover his expenses is charged to credit cards.
For now all is well. Adam makes the best social media posts and he has lots of Facebook friends and Instagram followers. Another aspect of his life totally based on lies. All his posts highlighting only the best parts of his life, all his friends lying in the same way strengthening the message of the many marketing groups.
Buy now while you still have credit. Spend it all while you still have a job. Enjoy life now because who knows, tomorrow may not come.
At least Adam is young and single.
When his lifestyle finally catch up with him, he will have no fear! The world offers solutions for that as well. Just call for a consolidation loan, or let us help you with your credit card debt, or ask us about bankruptcy. The lies never stop.
I read somewhere the devil is the father of lies.
Modern marketing must be his bride.
