Denial is such a powerful thing. It is so well understood and so common that I suspect the saying, ‘there is an elephant in the room that nobody talks about’ might have some of its origins in this refusal of truth, this stubborn silence we adopt when faced with something we just do not want to admit, accept or address and change. The word denial always makes me think of the Nile, and all its crocodile who live their lives not knowing they are in ‘de Nile’, so this silly poem appeared in my head.
Crocodile:
Denial is filled with crocodile
Even though for friends I’ll walk a mile with a smile
When alone I fret, worry and cry
But for tomorrow I practice my smile
Cause I am too a mere crocodile
