Legal notice: this has nothing to do with anyone I know! It’s a fucking poem!

The definition of disappointment is simple. It is a feeling we have when someone or something behaves in a way we did not expect, or do not like. Seems to me that disappointment arises when we start to believe that we ‘get’ someone and that they are predictable and safe. People are anything but safe and predictable, and they will do things their own way. We need to expect disappointment and use it to grow our own minds. This verse describes one of a multitude of contexts for disappointment.

When you fail to conduct your life as I expect,
it makes you the one with the behavioral defect!
Now I know that you purposely elect to wreck
my image of you, which is absolutely perfect!

When you neglect or are inept, I select to accept
that you are acting entirely with disrespect.
I reject the precept that you are your own prefect
and are deliberately behaving in ways I cannot accept!

You must live as I instruct, always appear perfect,
anything else is unacceptable and incorrect!
You are my project, the object I selected to direct,
to constantly check, dissect, and finally perfect!

Don't you dare disappoint me, subject of mine!
Toe the line I divine, so I may always feel sublime.
Know that you are the one who sets and defines
this fragile and tenuous happiness of mine.
